In October 2025, a team from Republic Polytechnic in Singapore implemented the principles of the CoDesignS ESD Framework within a Statistical Methods for Engineering course. Using the CoDesignS ESD Toolkit Planner, the team systematically reviewed the course design and identified opportunities to integrate sustainability-oriented learning outcomes, activities, and assessments. The process enabled the educators to align statistical concepts with real-world sustainability challenges, fostering students’ ability to apply quantitative methods to environmental, social, and economic issues. This redesign aimed to enhance both disciplinary learning and students’ understanding of how statistical analysis can support informed decision-making for sustainable development.
The module introduces students to the basic statistical concepts and methods employed in solving engineering problems. While developing students ability to deal with data and apply statistical reasoning to real-world contexts, we emphasize using data for sustainability-related challenges. Sustainability contexts will be used to enhance relevance and foster critical thinking, social responsibility, and interdisciplinary awareness.
